Common Uses Of Digital Signal Processors

DSP is used in various daily audio electronic products. To understand the impact of DSP on your listening experience, here are some DSP applications that you are already using:

Audio Equalizer (EQ): DSP is used to balance various types of music. Use equalization in the recording studio to control the volume of different sound frequencies. If there is no balance, you will find it difficult to listen to music because the human voice may sound weak, the instrument may sound scattered, and the bass will overwhelm all frequencies, making the audio unclear or cloudy.

Active audio dividers: These audio dividers are used to separate different audio frequencies and allocate them to different speakers designed for a specific audio range. Audio dividers are commonly used in car stereo systems, surround sound systems, and speakers using different sizes of speaker drivers.

Headphones/In Ear 3D Audio: You can use speaker dividers and various surround sound systems to achieve 3D audio. With the help of hidden DSP, your headphones and earphones can process audio, providing a 3D sound listening experience without speakers. DSP can achieve this by simulating a spatial sound field, which only requires headphones to simulate the movement of sound in 3D space.

Active noise reduction (ANC): Active noise reduction technology uses a microphone to record low-frequency noise, which then produces sound that is opposite to the recorded noise frequency. Then, this generated sound is used to eliminate environmental noise before it reaches the eardrum. ANC can only be achieved at the instantaneous processing speed of DSP.
