The Development Trends And Prospects Of DSP
Leave a message
DSP is continuously meeting people's increasing demands on its development path, and is gradually moving towards personalization and low-power consumption. The prospects for DSP development are very promising.
(1) System level integrated DSP is the trend
Reducing the size of DSP chips has always been the development direction of DSP technology. Most current DSPs are based on RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing) architecture, which has the advantages of small size, low power consumption, and high performance. Various DSP manufacturers have adopted new processes to improve DSP cores, and integrated several DSP cores, MPU cores, dedicated processing units, peripheral circuit units, and storage units on one chip, becoming DSP system level integrated circuits.
(2) Programmable DSP is the leading product
Programmable DSP provides manufacturers with great flexibility. Manufacturers can develop various series of products with different models on the same DSP platform to meet the needs of different users. At the same time, programmable DSP also provides a good way for users to easily upgrade.
(3) Fixed point DSP is mainstream
In theory, although floating-point DSP has a larger dynamic range than fixed-point DSP and is more suitable for DSP applications, fixed-point DSP devices have lower costs, lower requirements for memory, and lower power consumption. Therefore, programmable DSP devices for fixed-point operations are still the mainstream product in the market. According to statistics, the vast majority of DSP devices currently sold are 16 bit fixed-point programmable DSP devices, and it is expected that the proportion will gradually increase in the future.
(4) Pursuing higher computational speed
At present, the general DSP processing speed is 100MIPS, which can process 100 million instructions per second. Due to the trend of personalization and customization in electronic devices, DSP must pursue higher and faster computing speed in order to keep up with the pace of electronic device updates. The improvement of DSP computing speed mainly relies on new processes to improve chip structure. Currently, most DSP devices use 0.5 μ M~0.35 μ According to the development trend of CMOS, it is completely possible to increase the computing speed of DSP by another 100 times (reaching 1600GIPS) in the mCMOS process.
